Book Recommendations

I'm reading a couple of great books now that are very timely. One is "The History of the Great Depression" A New History of the Great Depression by Amity Shlaes. The other is "New Deal or Raw Deal?" How FDR's Economic Legacy Has Damaged America by Burton Folsom Jr. I learned in high school history class that FDR and his policies saved us from the Great Depression. According to these two authors this is not necessarily true. In fact, his policies actually prolonged the depression and increased it's severity. Shocking huh? What's even more shocking is that these same disastrous policies are being implemented to help bring us out of the current economic crisis. You'd think our politicians would learn from history and not just repeat it!

  1. Too true! It is all a matter of perspective. My husband always gets mad at the "Who is your favorite president?" questions because people always say FDR. It just goes to show how the media, and education, are controlled by liberal-leaning politics which sadly shapes people's perceptions of both the past and the future.
